Description

CARBIDE TURNING INSERTS DCMT

DCMT carbide turning inserts are single-sided, positive-geometry turning inserts featuring a 55° diamond (rhomboid) shape with a 7° relief (clearance) angle. Designed for finishing, semi-finishing, and general turning, DCMT inserts combine good edge strength with sharp cutting action. They are widely used in steel, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous materials, providing reliable performance and consistent surface finish across a broad range of conditions.

Made from cemented carbide (WC-Co) and typically PVD-coated (TiN, TiAlN, TiCN, or AlTiN), DCMT inserts deliver a balance between toughness, wear resistance, and cutting precision.

Key Features

• Shape: 55° diamond (rhomboid)
• Relief Angle: 7° (positive geometry)
• Cutting Edges: Single-sided – 2 cutting edges per insert
• Mounting Type: Clamp or screw-on (standard ISO holders, e.g. SDJCR/L)
• Coatings: PVD – TiN, TiAlN, TiCN, AlTiN (depending on grade)
• Application Type: Finishing, semi-finishing, and general turning

Materials & Applications

DCMT carbide inserts are used for a wide range of turning operations requiring good surface finish, moderate cutting depths, and reliable chip control. The combination of positive rake geometry and strong cutting edges allows these inserts to perform well on both soft and hard materials.

Typical Workpiece Materials:

• Steel (carbon and alloy) — general-purpose finishing and semi-finishing.
• Stainless Steel — effective with TiAlN or AlTiN coatings that resist heat and built-up edge formation.
• Cast Iron — suitable for fine to medium finishing, providing stable performance.
• Aluminum & Non-Ferrous Alloys — usable with uncoated or polished-edge versions for smooth cuts.

Common Operations:

• Finishing and semi-finishing of general components
• Profiling and contour turning
• Internal turning (boring) with 55° toolholders
• Light to medium cutting with consistent chip evacuation

Advantages & Performance

• Versatility: Suitable for a wide range of materials and operations, both external and internal turning.
• Balanced Edge Strength: Offers durability and stability for semi-finishing while maintaining sharpness for fine cuts.
• Positive Cutting Geometry: Reduces cutting forces and improves chip control, ideal for medium-speed machining.
• Excellent Surface Finish: Ground cutting edges and optimized chipbreakers produce consistent, high-quality finishes.
• Extended Tool Life: PVD coatings improve wear resistance and temperature stability during prolonged use.
• Compatibility: Fits standard ISO toolholders (SDJCR/L, SDNCN, SDACR/L, etc.).
