Description

CARBIDE TURNING INSERTS SCMT

SCMT carbide turning inserts are single-sided, positive-geometry square inserts featuring a 7° relief (clearance) angle and a 90° included angle. Designed for finishing and medium-duty turning operations, SCMT inserts provide excellent surface finish, low cutting forces, and consistent performance in light to medium-duty turning applications. They are suitable for machining a range of materials, including steel (P), cast iron (K), and stainless steel (M).

Made from cemented carbide (WC-Co) and often CVD or PVD coated (e.g., TiN, TiCN, Al₂O₃, TiAlN), SCMT inserts offer high wear resistance, thermal stability, and durability. Their positive geometry ensures sharp cutting edges, making them ideal for precision turning and finishing operations.

Materials & Applications

SCMT carbide inserts are ideal for operations requiring sharp cutting edges, low cutting forces, and high surface finish. The positive geometry provides excellent chip control and reduces the risk of built-up edge, making them suitable for precision machining.

Typical Workpiece Materials:

• Steel (P) — general turning and finishing operations
• Cast Iron (K) — suitable for finishing and semi-finishing cuts
• Stainless Steel (M) — effective with proper grade and coating to resist built-up edge

Common Operations:

• Finishing and semi-finishing of precision parts
• Light turning with high surface finish requirements
• Internal and external turning requiring sharp cutting edges
