Description

CARBIDE TURNING INSERTS SNMM

SNMM carbide turning inserts are double-sided, negative-geometry square inserts featuring a 0° relief (clearance) angle and a 90° included angle. Designed for heavy roughing, semi-finishing, and general turning, SNMM inserts provide high edge strength, superior stability, and consistent performance in demanding cutting conditions. They are widely used for machining steel, cast iron, and stainless steel, particularly in applications requiring rigidity and long tool life.

Made from cemented carbide (WC-Co) and often CVD or PVD coated (TiN, TiCN, Al₂O₃, TiAlN), SNMM inserts offer excellent wear resistance, thermal stability, and durability. Their thick, double-sided design ensures high toughness and allows for multiple cutting edges, maximizing productivity and cost efficiency.

Materials & Applications

SNMM carbide inserts are designed for rigid setups and powerful machines, where high cutting forces and depth of cut are common. The negative geometry and flat-top design provide enhanced edge strength, making them suitable for continuous and interrupted cuts.

Typical Workpiece Materials:

• Steel (carbon and alloy) — excellent for roughing and semi-finishing at high cutting parameters
• Cast Iron (gray and ductile) — performs reliably with strong edges and chip control
• Stainless Steel — when used with suitable grades and coatings to reduce heat and built-up edge
• Superalloys (limited use) — certain grades may perform in stable, low-speed operations

Common Operations:

• Heavy roughing with deep cuts
• Semi-finishing and facing
• Interrupted cutting and high-feed operations
• General turning where toughness and edge life are critical
