Description

CARBIDE TURNING INSERTS TNMX

TNMX carbide turning inserts are double-sided, negative-geometry triangular inserts featuring a 60° included angle and typically a 0° relief (clearance) angle. These inserts are designed for finishing to medium cutting operations, offering a strong combination of edge stability, wear resistance, and finish quality. They are well suited for machining a variety of materials, including steel, cast iron, and stainless steel.

Made from cemented carbide (WC-Co) and commonly available either uncoated or with CVD/PVD coatings depending on the grade and application, TNMX inserts combine multi-index economy, good chip control, and versatility in general turning operations.

Key Features

• Shape: Triangle (T) — included angle 60° Relief Angle: 0° (negative geometry) — typical for “N” in the code set.
• Cutting Edges: Double-sided — triangular inserts normally offer 6 usable cutting edges (three corners × two sides) depending on size.
• Mounting Type: Clamp or screw-on (compatible with ISO standard tool-holders for triangular inserts).
• Coatings: Depending on material and grade — may be uncoated (especially for stable cast iron work) or coated with CVD/PVD layers for steels and stainless steels.
• Application Type: Finishing to medium turning, general purpose, especially where surface finish and moderate removal are required.

Materials & Applications

TNMX inserts are optimized for operations where finish quality and moderate cutting depth are key, while still offering good toughness and economy.

Typical Workpiece Materials:

• Steel (carbon & alloy) — suitable for finishing and medium cuts
• Cast Iron (gray & ductile) — appropriate grades work well for these materials
• Stainless Steel — when choosing the correct grade/coating for thermal and wear control

Common Operations:

• Finishing and semi-finishing of parts
• Medium turning where chip evacuation and edge integrity matter
• External and internal turning where triangular insert access is beneficial
• General turning with a balance of surface finish and productivity

Advantages & Performance

• Good Chip Control: The geometry combined with appropriate chip-breaker or honed edge gives effective chip evacuation and smooth cuts.
• Stable Edge: Negative geometry and solid insert base give good resistance to edge breakage and vibration in moderate cutting conditions.
• Multi-Index Efficiency: Double-sided triangular design offers multiple indexings, reducing cost per part.
• Versatile Use: Suitable across a range of materials (P-, M-, K- groups) with correct grade selection.
• Balanced Finish & Productivity: While not purely a finish-only insert, TNMX offers a good compromise between durability and surface quality.
